The picturesque town of Cullen is situated on the north-east coast of Scotland. This historic Royal Burgh is dominated by its viaducts, which overlook the beautiful beaches. Originally a small fishing village, Cullen now finds itself popular amoung tourists, especially during the summer. |
There are many lovely walks in the area, with Cullen standing as an end point to the Moray Coast Trail, a well established route on the Moray Firth Trail network. Starting on the old railway viaducts, the route stretches some 50 miles along the coast to the west. If you are feeling more adventurous, head east from Cullen Harbour along the coastline. Past the Pet Cemetary and down the Giant Steps, you will find one of Scotlands best kept secrets, the golden sands of Sunnyside Beach. A small walk further and you will find the ruins of old Findlater Castle, steeped in Scottish history. You can also enjoy a relaxing walk through Crannoch Woods, or a trip up the Bin of Cullen. |

If walking is not your thing there are countless other things to do. Dolphin watching, powerboating, surfing and sea fishing are among some of the water-based activities to be found. Tennis, bowling, archery, clay pigeon shooting, horse riding, cycling, orienteering and birdwatching can also be found, with organised events taking place throughout the year. If angling is you thing, the famous salmon rivers Spey and Deveron are merely 20 minutes away. Cullen is a dream location for golfers. Besides it's own fantastic 18-hole golf course, Strathlene, Buckpool, Keith and Royal Tarlair are all within a 10 minute drive away. If that isn't enough, the vibrant cities of Aberdeen and Inverness are both only an hour away. |
Make sure to try Cullen Skink while visiting Cullen, the famous local smoked fish soup. Home-made ice cream from The Ice Cream Shop is worth the trip alone. Take in the Malt Whiskey Trail, with many Scotch distilleries nearby. Visting Baxters of Speyside is also a must, at least to try one of their freshly made pancakes topped with a choice of their famous jams. |
